"A Letter to the Self"
Hello there
You might not know me very well
But I am you
You as in yourself
I am your soul, mind and heart
Speaking to you as if we were two
You don't seem to like me very much
I guess that's okay
Opinions are subjective, I suppose
Everyone can't like everything
But what I want you to know
Is that I like you
I like you quite a bit actually
You think that I'm ugly
And that my face isn't round enough
But I've always loved your hair
And your eyes are pretty too!
You seem to hate the way I walk
And think I'm taking up space
But you're always seem so polite and mindful
For whatever reason, you really loathe my interests
To you, they're weird, unusual, and cringy
But I think yours are so unique, special, and intriguing!
I've seen the way you shrivel when you're in public
As if how you dress is a crime
But that's what makes you one of a kind!
I just wish you could let me be one too
But I know none of that is as important
As how you feel about my behavior
In your eyes, I'm just a rude, coldhearted bastard
With nothing to offer
And with no love to give
But when I see how you treat others
Your kindhearted soul is clear as day
As I mentioned, I know you don't like me
And I don't know if that'll ever change
But there's something I want you to know
No matter what happens and no matter what is said
I love you from the very core of the heart
Maybe you could learn to love me too
